A real writer

desk.jpgI have been working at one of those put-it-together-yourself shoddy desks since I moved into my apartment last summer, because it was cheap and I needed to use my money for things that were more essential at the time.  But writer friends sometimes talk about their desks and I’ve always felt like I wasn’t a real writer because my desk totally sucked.  Today I got a really great desk and chair that I’d desk-set.jpgbeen eyeing for the past few months, waiting for it to go clearance (because I am a total bargain shopper of nice quality things).  I have about four times the desktop space now, and on top of that it looks really nice.  I am pleased.  With this desk and chair I can now brag about my desk like a real writer.

That’s so cute! Love your new writer’s desk. Of course you are still great without the desk. 😉

Yep, that’s a real writer’s desk. Don’t know how you were managing to fool us about being a real writer until now, but you did it and now you don’t have to ’cause when you write on that desk, it will be Real.

(Although I love my new cool office, so I actually think I understand.)

Bah! That’s no writer’s desk. FAR too orderly. Poser.

It’s true. I am FAR too orderly in my attempts at minimalism. Somehow this doesn’t carry over into my actual *fiction*, which is pretty messy and all over the place at times, I think. Maybe I should experiment by getting disorderly in life and see if my writing gets pared down and sleek. It could use it sometimes, I think!

No, brother. Don’t touch the prose. Just overturn a trashcan in there or something, make me feel better. 🙂

Elegant! I have desk envy. (though mostly it’s cleanliness envy)

    It’s beautiful!

And I agree with Maureen… you did a REALLY good job of faking us out this whole time. 😉

I couldn’t believe I got the thing so cheap, really. Ok, I have to say how much: 65 dollars. 65! I get ridiculously happy when I can not only get something I want, but get it much cheaper than the original price (in this case it was originally 300). I had good shopper’s karma saved up or something.

Wow, I love it! Definitely a great deal on price. I am envious of such a neat desk, only something is missing, did I see my picture on it anywhere?

It is a lovely desk and I hope it will help you in your writing. It definitely needs to have a little more going on to look like it has a life. But I’m sure it hasn’t stayed this neat for long. I would really like to know where you found such a nice desk (and chair). Please let me know. Not that I will be able to get the same one, but I would like to shop where they have nice things. You have good taste.
