I identify with this comment, in the case of being the guy with the beautiful date, holding the martini and cigarette and standing against the wall as I make snide comments about everyone who passes by in the country club. My point is, have you been paying attention to the people who are passing by? Hello, have you realized we’re standing in a country club?
The snide comments are well-deserved.

Thinking a line like, “He’s the kind of guy at the country club…” is going to resonate with an electorate most of whom have never been in a country club is politically tone deaf in ways I find amazing. And the idea of an African American being a member of a country club (much less being the kind of bad member who stands around making snide comments about other members) mainly serves to remind people of the fact that country clubs were and some still are among the least integrated institutions in the country. Political touch is a delicate thing and when a politician loses it (as Bill Clinton showed he had back in the primaries) he or she loses it entirely.
I’m with Rick. I can’t get past the black guy at the country club thing in Rove’s little story. Why is anyone even letting Carl Rove speak anymore? However, the martinis and the snide comments endear Obama to me even more. He’s smarter than the country club crowd and he knows it? Fine with me.

Im with Lucy (and Jon Stewart who did a a few months back as to why we really want an “elitist” for president). I’ve spent the last 8 years being smarter than my president and frankly, I find it horribly uncomfortable. Speaking of which, does anyone else find it odd that this characterization is coming from a man openly referred to by his employer as “Turd Blossom” ? The more I think about this quote as coming from Karl Rove, the more beautifully absurd it becomes on so many levels!
